Despite only being in its second year, the award is one of the most important educational events in the Brazilian academic calendar. Its objective is to recognize and award projects that make a difference in the school environment, regardless of whether it is (or not) finished.
According to Catarina Lutero Mendes, Social Investment analyst at the ArcelorMittal Foundation, this is an opportunity for educators and students to work together. Teachers should participate in an online training, which will take place on the 27th. In this mini course, they will have the opportunity to learn more about how the STEAM league works and the proper methodology for project development.
Entries must submit a sketch of the final product by July 9th to be evaluated. The selection of classifieds takes place from the 1st of August, and the final production reports must be delivered on the 29th of October. Goals
According to Catarina, it is the role of participating students and educators to propose solutions to problems in their communities, even if it is not possible to solve them completely. The ArcelorMittal Foundation Social Investment analyst also recalled the need to orchestrate initiatives focused on solutions to bullying and violence in schools, going beyond the environmental scope.
In a direct quote, she said that “Because, many times, they will not be able to build a machine, for example, to separate garbage, but they can propose a machine that has this function. And they prototype just to experience what it would be like to put technology and engineering in favor of sustainable development”.

After submitting the reports, a judging committee will evaluate the projects and select ten from each category:
- Early childhood education, from 4 years old to the second year of elementary school;
- Elementary school, from the third to the ninth year;
- High school.
Those selected must send a video narrating their experience. On December 6, the three finalists will be announced.
The winning school in the children's category will receive a toy library, while for the primary and secondary school winners, light robotics laboratories will be implemented.
For the second and third placed in each category, prizes are in cash, in the respective amounts of R$ 10,000 and R$ 5,000. As a rule, it must be reversed in equipment and improvements for schools.
