The lack of payment for resident physicians and fellows at Capes resulted from the freezing of funds decreed by former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) in December.
This sad scenario affected about 14,000 resident physicians. The total cost to supply all this demand is R$65 million. This number of professionals includes those directly linked to the Federal University of São Paulo (Unifesp).
In addition, there are also 100,000 scholarship holders in master's, doctoral and post-doctoral courses directed by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Capes).
What are the prospects for payments?
The MEC has been looking with the Ministry of Economythe expansion of the payment limit, since the decree says that it is not possible to release new resources for discretionary expenses in December.
In addition to the aforementioned issue, another major concern concerns the 2023 expenses. With regard to school materials, for example, the MEC does not have the resources to pay for them, so they will not be delivered until February.
About the 2023 Enem, the bidding has not yet started. This will directly affect the area of technology that sustains systems such as Sisu, a program that distributes vacancies in all federal universities.
Unfortunately, during the government of Jair Bolsonaro, the higher and basic education system suffered many cuts in resources. During the meeting that decreed the cuts mentioned above, the situation of each area and the programs carried out were presented. Now, each sector of the MEC must come together to initiate the necessary reforms.
