Check where 2023 starts first and where it starts last
Check now the places in the world that received 2023 first than everyone else and where the new year arrived late:
Kiribati and Samoa
These two countries are located in the Central Pacific and were the first places in the world to celebrate the new year. While for us, Brazilians, it was 8 am, Brasilia time on December 31, in these countries it was already midnight on January 1, 2023.
But, at the level of curiosity, Samoa was not always the country to welcome the new year before everyone else, in fact it is quite the opposite. The country, previously, was the last to celebrate the turn of the year and to become the first, they skip December 30th since the year 2011.
The objective was to change the country's time zone and bring it closer to its main commercial partners in Asia and Oceania. That is, in Samoa, you jump from the 29th to the 31st.

So that there is no confusion, Samoa is an independent country, unlike American Samoa which is part of the territory of the U.S from America, that is, they are different countries.
And these were the countries that said goodbye to late 2022. On January 1st, while it was 9am according to Brasilia time, in the above countries, the year 2023 had just arrived.
