Frontline in the pandemic

Since the pandemic period spread around the world, health professionals have been demonstrating all the its importance for fighting the virus and helping patients who are affected by Covid-19.

They are professionals from the most diverse sectors: doctors, nurses, nutritionists, physiotherapists, among others, who have had their lives changed during their workdays and nights attending strangers, friends and family in rooms and ICUs.

Jarbas da Silva Motta Junior, who is an intensivist, was the doctor who treated the first very serious case of Covid-19 in Curitiba. After a few weeks, he had to attend to his own father.

“As soon as my father arrived at the hospital, I looked at the team and said that from that moment on, I was just a son”, explains.

Jarbas da Silva Motta, 69, was hospitalized for 37 days until he left the ICU for patients with Covid-19 at Marcelino Champagnat Hospital. His discharge, which took place in December 2020, was very emotional, and so the patient reestablished his faith.

“I never believed in God, but now I know that God is the love we feel”, he said. The doctor understood what it was like to be on the other side while observing his colleagues at work.
