A National Driver's License (CNH) underwent changes in order to modernize and improve the document. In this sense, the new CNH starts to be valid from June, and whoever is going to get their license for the first time or renew their license from July onwards will already need to issue the new document. New CNH — Is the exchange mandatory?
Exchange is not mandatory for all drivers. The update will be done gradually as new qualifications, renewals or duplicates appear. Therefore, if you are still far from the deadline for renewing your license, there is no need to rush to get the new driver's license.
What changes with the new version of CNH?
The new card will be issued in print, but will also have a digital version. The main change refers to the colors of the model, as the wallet will be all in green and yellow. In addition, it will have a letter “P” indicating who has permission to drive, or a “D” for those who have the definitive license.
Tables to indicate qualification categories
Another novelty in the document is a table with the different categories of license, which will serve to indicate which categories the driver has a license for. In addition, it will also inform if the driver uses the CNH to work and will have a field of observations with medical restrictions, if any.
State identification number and QR Code on the new CNH
The new driver's license will have a state identification number, in addition to the national registration, and will have a QR Code in order to store document data. This tool has been in use in qualification documents since 2017.
Will the validity of the new CNH be the same?
Changing the model will not change the validity of the driver's license. The current validity of the document is 10 years for drivers up to 50 years old and will remain so. In addition, other issues such as the point limit will also not undergo changes for those who issue the new driver's license.
