As stated above, the Brazilian Traffic Code has undergone some changes in the last two years, one of these changes was the new score on the CNH – National Driver's License and the new rules related to the low beam and the red light on the Traffic.
Now in this new CTB regulation, in some situations the driver will be able to advance the red light of Traffic and in terms of low beams, the new law removes the obligation to use low beams on certain roads situations.
The new low beam law
Law 14,071 changed certain points of the Brazilian Traffic Code and among these changes is the change in the mandatory use of low beams. The May 2016 rule, which required the driver to use the low beam on any road, has been modified.
This new rule declares that the use of low beams on highways in Brazil is no longer necessary, but the use of low beams on single-lane highways is still mandatory.
For those drivers who have the DRL – daytime driving light; it is not necessary to turn it on during the day, not even on single lane highways.
Drivers who drive on roads where there is a physical separation, such as walls, guard rail, median, do not need to turn on their headlights.
However, low beams should still be turned on in tunnels, fog, rain or haze.
Those who do not comply with the rules of the Brazilian Traffic Code will receive 4 points on their CNH and a fine of R$ 130.16.
New red light rule
With the same law that applied the low beam rule, Law 14,071. Established a situation where the driver can pass the closed traffic light (the red light). Due to this new rule, it will be established that the driver has the possibility to pass the red light, which is only when the driver is going to make a conversion to the right.
However, for the driver to be able to do this, there must be a sign indicating that the driver has permission to perform this maneuver.
Drivers who are going to follow in a straight line, or make a left turn, must not, under any circumstances, pass the red traffic light. Pay attention to the fact that this new rule only applies to turning to the right, with signs that allow such a maneuver.
