Brazilian Firefighter's Day

On July 2nd, the day of the firefighter is commemorated, a Civil Defense corporation that is directly linked to the Military Police.

The date was officially decreed in Brazil in the year 1954, and today they have been in existence for one hundred and fifty-two years.

The first records of the services of the Fire Department in Brazil appeared in 1856, when Emperor D. Pedro II signed a decree that characterized the reduction of fires.

Before the creation of this corporation, people put out fires with the help of neighbors and friends, in addition to having the good fortune of finding plenty of water in the locality. The cans were passed from hand to hand, until they reached the place of fire, in a very simple and risky way, which could cause greater damage, due to people's lack of preparation.

Today we can access the fire department through the telephone number 193, a number that serves locations across the country. But this number must be preserved from prank calls and bad jokes, as they can get in the way of saving lives that are in danger.

The profession of firefighter is very beautiful and should be valued more, as they put their lives in danger to save other people's lives.

In addition to being used to put out fires, these professionals are prepared to rescue people who are at risk of losing their lives, rescue animals in difficult situations, suffocation, attempted suicide, drowning and trauma in accidents, disappearances in forests and woods, etc.

They also carry out inspections in companies, ensuring conditions for first assistance in case of fires, where they must keep fire extinguishers full and provide safety equipment to employees.

Firefighters also develop social and educational projects, providing guidance to young people and children in schools on ways to avoid accidents, care in dams, swimming pools and beaches, care with alcohol and fire, accidents in games, not handling cleaning products, not taking medicines without guidance from adults, among several others. In addition to these, they show how important it is to have correct attitudes as citizens, such as maintaining order in our cities, respecting the laws and complying with our obligations.

This work is very important, because through prevention they provide students with guidelines that can prevent accidents, making them more responsible in their attitudes.
