Coincidentally, The Gambia issued a statement prior to the Uzbekistan case, noting that it found high levels of ethylene glycol and diethylene glycol in syrups manufactured by Maiden Pharma. In The Gambia, these syrups have caused severe kidney damage and the deaths of more than 60 children.

After the incident in Gambia, the World Health Organization (WHO) suspended the export of Maiden Pharma syrups. On the other hand, the Indian manufacturer pointed out that the WHO took a hasty decision by linking the children's deaths to the drugs in question.

Ministry of Health warned about the case

Upon the event, the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan issued a statement stating the cause of death. The report pointed out that the children did not have medical clearance to ingest Doc-1 Max.

“As the main component of the medicine is acetaminophen, Doc-1 Max syrup was misused as an anti-flu medicine on the recommendation of pharmacy sellers. This was the reason for the deterioration of the patients' condition. It was possible to see that this series of Doc-1 Max syrup contains ethylene glycol. This substance is toxic, and about 1-2 ml/kg of a 95% concentrated solution can cause serious alterations in the patient's health, such as vomiting, fainting, convulsions", the statement pointed out to the country.
