The General Registry, better known as RG, is an identity document used by Brazilians to prove their identification and citizenship.
It is issued by the Public Security Departments of each state and gathers essential information, such as name, affiliation, date of birth, in addition to the individual and non-transferable registration number.

Recently, the Federal Government announced an important change in the RG, aiming to simplify and modernize the recognition process. The proposal is to unify the document with the Individual Taxpayer Registration (CPF).
The joining of the two documents would facilitate the processing of personal data. After the implementation of the single document, it is expected that public agencies and even companies will benefit from the reduction of bureaucracy.
How to remove a new copy of the document?
At the moment, only 4 states are able to handle the withdrawal of the first copy of the new RG: Acre, Mato Grosso, Santa Catarina and Alagoas. The document was even renamed ''Carteira de Identidade Nacional'' (CIN).
The Ministry of Management and Innovation in Public Services (MGI), responsible for organizing the resources, has already revealed that more than half a million cards were issued in November of the year past. After the first tests, the Federal Government says that new service stations will be made available.
Stay tuned for updates and if any child of your family was born in that period, it is necessary to make the old RG normally. The transition from the common identity to the CIN must be carried out later, using the registered registration number.
QR Code with access to all information
One of the main innovations brought about by the arrival of CIN is the inclusion of a QR Code. This two-dimensional barcode will allow you to gather official documents in the cell phone, to be used in certain emergencies.
This code can be read by electronic devices, facilitating the verification and authentication of information in different contexts.
