Studies on Pepper

Studies indicate that peppers, due to the heat they cause in the body when consumed, can reduce the risk of heart disease by 26% and cancer by 23%. In addition, researchers point out that people who consume pepper tend to live longer. This finding shows how food directly affects our health.

However, it is still not known why this happens in the case of pepper. There were already researches that showed the anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and blood glucose regulation benefits of eating this food. In this sense, it is believed that this is due to capsaicin, a compound that makes chili peppers spicy.

Other benefits of pepper

In addition to the above, pepper has other benefits. Check out some of them:

  • Due to the large amount of vitamins A and C, it strengthens the immune system and helps with eye health.
  • Also due to vitamin A, which is an antioxidant, as well as the flavonoids present in chili pepper, it protects the body against free radicals that can damage cells.
  • Cayenne pepper lowers bad blood cholesterol (LDL) and triglycerides and increases HDL, which is the good cholesterol. In addition, it also prevents clotting.
  • Capsaicin, mentioned earlier, is able to discreetly increase metabolism, which causes the body to spend more energy and burn more calories.
  • The heat in the body provided by capsaicin produces anandamide. This substance is able to reduce inflammation in the intestine.
