Google alert worries Android users
In a statement on its official website, Google warned users about a new malware called “Predator”, developed by Cytrox, a company based in North Macedonia. According to the company, it uses zero-day vulnerabilities, the most serious type of security flaw, in Chrome and Android, allowing it to record device audio.
How does the attack work?
Attackers send a fake email that mimics a service that reduces the number of links. When a user clicks, they are redirected to a criminal's domain where the spyware is stored. To disguise the scam, the user is directed to a legitimate website.
According to Google, this type of spyware is most often used on journalists and has been used before. Fortunately, the TAG team claims that the spyware was not designed to target millions of users. In fact, according to the company, the targets were tens of thousands of users, recommending a clear, well-thought-out strategy for targeting specific individuals or entities with spyware to surveillance.
Google has issued this warning to Android users warning people to be more aware of this unseen but extremely harmful threat. In addition, the company emphasized the need to maintain safety first, including not installing any suspicious software and, in particular, not clicking on links sent via email.
