How does the INSS for dependents work?
Well, the function of this service is to financially support people who have lost their provider, due to death or disappearance. Certainly, to have access to these amounts, this provider must have been a contributor to the INSS.
The pension is passed on to the beneficiaries each month, after proving the relationship between the two people and also the financial dependence. So, this money works as a kind of salary or pension that the deceased person used to receive.
When are grandchildren entitled to pension for the death of grandparents?
As in common death pension cases, it is necessary to prove in court that there was a family and financial relationship between the two people. In this case, to prove the family context between grandparents and grandchildren, they need to be “equated” to children.
This benefit is not exclusive to grandparents who had guardianship of their grandchildren, although it makes it much easier. In cases of guardianship by the grandparents due to the separation or death of the parents, it is easier to go to court for the alimony.
