According to the incident report, the uncle called the Civil Police around 7 pm last Saturday (10). On the call, he reported that his 21-year-old sister and her 24-year-old husband left their nephew alone in the apartment.

Immediately, a police team arrived at the house and found the boy alone in apartment number 6. The child, in turn, confirmed that he had been unaccompanied for three days.

In addition, the boy told the police that this has been a recurring practice of country. In addition to leaving the child alone, they had placed him in charge of taking care of the family dogs while the tutors were away.

At the same time, the Tutelary Council was asked to be aware of the seriousness of the situation and to take all appropriate measures to ensure the child's protection.

According to information, the child's uncle accompanied the entire police procedure to ensure his nephew's safety.

Dangerous practice prohibited by law

Brazilian law provides that it is a crime to leave a child alone at home, without proper supervision by a responsible adult. Law nº 13.010/2014, known as the Menino Bernardo Law, establishes that it is everyone's duty to ensure the well-being of children and adolescents, guaranteeing them dignity and protection against any form of violence.

Therefore, parents who leave a child alone at home may be exposing their children to various risks, such as domestic accidents, fires, poisoning, among others. In addition, the child may feel insecure and unprotected, which can affect their emotional and psychological development.
