How does body temperature work?
The region of the brain responsible for maintaining body temperature is the hypothalamus. The normal temperature is around 37ºC and can vary 2ºC up or down, and this imbalance is responsible for the physiological process of the human being.

Finding out which neurons are responsible for this process is a great challenge. However, scientists in Japan took a big step forward in science when they discovered a neuron that acts as a natural thermostat of the body. organism, which is called EP3 neuron, investigating how they act in the portion of the brain responsible for regulating temperature.
The initial experiment was carried out with rats, whose standard temperature is 28ºC. For a period of 2 h, the rats were exposed to low temperatures such as 4°C, comfortable temperatures such as 24°C and high temperatures such as 36°C. The results obtained showed that EP3 neurons were activated when the rats were exposed to 36ºC, while not at other temperatures.
Study expectations
Research is already well advanced, and scholars are performing different combinations to better understand how this neuron works, how to stimulate it and how the body reacts to it.
