The girls left Florida, from Lake Butler, to go to meet this person, who was in Louisiana. The information was conceived through an interview with the NBC News, when local police captain Lyn Williams commented on the case. The teenagers were being sought and there were already advertisements on television.
When stopping the car to fill up with gas, both realized that their photos were plastered on television and feared what could happen. Thoughtfully, they decided to turn themselves in to the police at that moment. They managed to travel to Alabama and were 150 kilometers away to find the person they met.
The US federal police, the FBI, says that this investigation raises “suspicious circumstances”, as they still do not know for sure who this person they met on the internet was. Chief Williams also stated that they don't know if this other person was an adult.
Similarity with the case that happened in Brazil
The case is still being investigated by the local police and was publicized through the media, which managed to reach the teenagers. The only information so far indicates that the two were going to find someone they were talking to on social media.
A similar case happened in Brazil, when an 11-year-old girl, a resident of Rio de Janeiro, was found in Maranhão with a 25-year-old man. According to information, they went to pick up the girl by car at the school door. The girl chatted with the boy on social media for a while.
