The application was launched by MEC and developed by the Secretariat of Professional and Technological Education (Setec) in collaboration with the Federal University of Alagoas (UFAL) and the University of São Paulo (USP), based on the studies of an American named John Lewis Holland.

The app aims to help students choose a professional career. SouTec is a free application and is available for Android and IOS, so it is possible to download the application on cell phones and tablets. It is also possible for users to find a test with 72 questions, and through them it will be possible to indicate the technical course that best suits the user. In addition, SouTec indicates the best educational institutions for the student, according to location.

Before starting the test, the student needs to fill in the following data: gender, age and if he has already completed primary and secondary education.
