One of the biggest dreams of most Brazilians is to visit Europe at some point in their lives. Lately, the realization of this wish has been made even further away by a sudden increase in airfares to European destinations.

Because of this strange movement, other destinations such as the United States and countries in South America seem more attractive at the moment. But, after all, what explains this sudden increase?
Why is traveling to Europe more expensive?
About two weeks ago, on June 7th, the Melhores Destinos portal, which specializes in travel, made a publication that explains why for which tickets to Europe are costing up to twice the amount charged to go to the United States, a destination that is also not cheap.
As an example, a ticket from São Paulo to Los Angeles was going for R$ 2565. The value is noticeably lower when compared to a passage of
São Paulo to Paris, France, for example, which is costing around R$3600.Initially, it was pointed out that the factor that most influences the price of airline tickets is its relationship with supply and demand. That is, due to the interest of Brazilians in leaving for Europe, flights from Brazil are at a high occupancy rate.
Therefore, it is not necessary to offer a discount, since there is a constant purchase interest. It should also be taken into account that the visitation rates to the Old Continent are returning to what they were before the start of the pandemic.
The United States, in turn, has a lower than normal occupancy on flights and, to attract those interested, airlines usually offer notable discounts.
In other words, if you are planning to take an international vacation and the expense on the payroll interests you, it might be better to wait for your destination in Europe to drop in price or select another local, like the U.S.
Melhores Destinos also cited other factors as responsible for this low demand for travel to the US. Among them, the bureaucracy to obtain the American visa, the fact that travel between Brazil and the United States can be made with short connections in countries that are in the way, the increase in the price of the dollar in recent years and the shortage of planes.
