Created on March 4, 1938 and about to turn 85, the Félix Araújo Municipal Library received an excellent alteration in early 2023. Its opening hours are from 8am to 4pm at the moment, serving the population only in the morning and afternoon shifts; however, through the Secretariat of Culture (Secult), the local government determined that the space will operate from 8:00 am to 8:30 pm from February of this year.
With this, the space that has more than 15 thousand works by more than 8 thousand authors will be much more used by the population, since it will be available in all three shifts of the day. That is, with 4h30 more availability.
Those who were unable to utilize the space because of the time now they can enjoy the facilities.
In addition to the schedule, other changes were made to improve the library.
The structure of the site was reinforced and equipment was improved, as well as improvements in lighting and painting. Even the library elevator – stopped for 22 years – has resumed its activities. In other words, the accessibility and aesthetics of the place have evolved a lot, benefiting everyone.
Because of this, there is considerable reinforcement in encouraging the reading for the population of Campina Grande.
In addition, the site will attract more visitors who want to get to know the culture of Campina Grande. In fact, the first half of January 2023 provided the library with around 1,200 transactions in book loans and numerous visits. When the new schedule takes effect, the expectation is that these numbers will become larger, thus bringing more life to the library and emphasizing its sociocultural importance.
