After the reality show BBB 21, northeastern couscous became a reason for discussion, and even caused several fights on the internet. Although there are several recipes for this dish, such as couscous from São Paulo and tapioca, it is believed that couscous from the northeast was the forerunner of this delicacy in Brazil.

In fact, this dish originates from the region known as the Maghreb, in Africa, where the inhabitants prepared couscous made with wheat, barley or rice. Upon arriving in the Brazilian Northeast, corn flour began to be used instead of these grains.
