In the second semester, all 5,300 state schools in São Paulo will take an important step towards sustainability. The Government of SP, in partnership with the State Department of Education, will implement a pioneering initiative by replacing common plastic cups with biodegradable cups.
Around 400 million units will be distributed throughout the school network, in an initial investment of approximately R$ 19 million.

The new cups will be made of biodegradable polypropylene, ensuring durability and quality even in everyday use.
The manufacture of these cups follows the rules established by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa), guaranteeing the safety and hygiene of the products. This care is associated with the ecological advantage, since these cups are totally suitable for the environment.
In addition to small daily changes in schools, starting with the use of simple cups, we will have surprises from the 2024 school year.
The state Department of Education will adopt a new sustainable measure by distributing school materials, such as a ruler and protractor to schools, made from biodegradable material.
