Sabesp announces increase in water bill
According to Sabesp's latest announcement, made on April 9, the water bill will be 9.56% more expensive. As with other raises, the company received numerous criticisms in the twitter. In response, the company said the readjustment is necessary.
The increase in water prices that affects 370 municipalities in São Paulo has caused revolt, as some Internet users claim that the service is not good. In a tweet, a user claims that she lives in a place that suffers from floods and nobody does anything.
Why will the water bill get more expensive?
Readjustments are made periodically. The only exception was during the pandemic period. Now that Covid-19 is no longer a global emergency, the Public Services Regulatory Agency of São Paulo (Arsesp) has authorized the next corrections.
This new correction considers the Extended Consumer Price Index (IPCA), which measures general inflation. In the last 12 months, this rate reached 5.6%, but why is the account going to be almost 10% more expensive and not 5%?
The organization said that in 2022, this amount had been discounted. Therefore, the adjustment of 5.55% that was not made will be added in the next charges, leading to a greater difference in value.
