After having Nintendo Switch confiscated, student attacks school official

On February 21, a high school student in Palm Coast, Florida was arrested after attacking a school employee who confiscated his Nintendo Switch device. Video of the incident shows the student running towards the employee, who falls to the ground after being hit.

He was later charged with aggravated assault with bodily harm and taken into custody at the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Center. According to reports, the 17-year-old was upset about having his Nintendo Switch device confiscated by the employee and claimed he beat her up for confiscating his game.

He was handed over to the state's Department of Juvenile Justice after his arrest. The Flagler County Sheriff's Office issued a press release regarding the incident. According to the statement, the student is about 1.80 cm tall and weighs about 120 kg. He was filmed kicking and punching the employee several times before other onlookers brushed him off.

Sheriff Rick Staly said in a statement that the student's actions were extremely abhorrent. The assaulted employee was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and is expected to recover physically and mentally.

School staff and students came to the victim's aid before school resource staff could arrive on the scene. It is critical that schools provide a safe environment for students and staff, Flagler County Superintendent of Schools Cathy Mittelstadt said in a press release.

The arrest report indicated that the student became aggressive during conversation with authorities after the incident and needed to be taken to another location. Out of respect for employee privacy, Flagler County Schools has chosen not to provide information about your medical condition at this time.
