The amounts referring to research grants had been lagging for ten years, that is, since 2023. The increase through inflation current was promised by several politicians and reaffirmed when Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) assumed the presidency of the country. Now, the government announces the increase percentages to researchers.
The Ministers of Education and Science and Technology, Camilo Santana and Luciana Santos, participate in a meeting with the president on Thursday, the 16th, at the Planalto Palace to discuss details on the increase in purses. The readjustments will cost R$ 2.38 billion, which will be passed on by the ministries of Science and Technology and by the MEC.

Indeed, there are many reviews as to the increase and also the amount of time the update took to happen. It has been debated that the change is significant, but it becomes insufficient in the face of the responsibilities that an adult in the master's, doctorate or post-doctorate can face.
This is a position taken by the president of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC), Helena Nader, who finds several situations in which the scholarship amount may still be insufficient. Effective change may be on the way.
