Previously, the rights to the first two were with Disney, which ended up giving up on continuing with the famous adaptations. Fox and Sony also had production rights to the other two films, with one released and the other cancelled.
However, as soon as Netflix was able to acquire them, it promised the production of new films and also an unprecedented series from the world of Narnia.
The idea is that the streaming platform follows a different path than that which was initially approached by Disney in its original productions.
More on the partnership between Netflix and The C.S. Lewis Company
The C.S. Lewis Company, owner of all books in the saga, will work together with Netflix to create a fully intertwined saga. According to preliminary information, the idea is to follow the same production line that Disney adopted for Star Trek.
Previously, Netflix had already started production on the film “The Silver Chair”, which, in the end, did not materialize. So far, however, it is still unclear what the streaming service's approach will be in creating the new series and films in the Narnia universe.
Will Netflix do a good job?
Altogether, there are seven volumes of books in the Chronicles of Narnia saga, as mentioned above. This material can give life to an incredible and unprecedented story. However, the question arises: how will Netflix utilize this material? That's what fans of the saga are wondering.
In recent years, the company has canceled half productions as soon as it realizes that they do not provide the expected return. Despite this being a commercial solution, it ends up irritating fans of abandoned productions a lot.
The story of The Chronicles of Narnia was created by Clive Staples Lewis, known only as C.S. Lewis. All books in the saga have become bestsellers, with over 100 million copies sold and translated into over 47 languages.
The three-film franchise illustrating the Narnia universe was also a huge hit with viewers, reaffirming the quality of C.S. Lewis.
