Do you trust your intuition? There is a scientific reason for this.

We need to make several decisions on a daily basis, some more important and difficult than others. Sometimes we try to use some parameters that motivate these choices, but in some situations we simply need to trust our instinct for that.

It turns out that intuition goes through some processes in the brain that are not always noticed, however, science has managed to confirm some questions about this procedure that go unnoticed by us in everyday life, as we will explain in the article.

Studies were done by the University of Toronto Scarborough, in which the researchers were able to verify that most of the people make their decisions according to instinct, not following only reason and logic, which were understood as the best tools.

In this way, as disclosed on the IFLScience website, our brain has a tool called the “predictive processing structure”, which is used when making decisions following instinct. Research leader Sam Maglio, a professor at the University of Toronto Scarborough, argues that “focusing on feelings over logic in the decision-making process led the participants to hold more tightly to some attitudes and defend them more firmly for their choices”.

It was demonstrated in the study that people who made quick decisions, using intuition, when confronted, showed to be more sure of the choices made. Not only that, but they also showed more happiness and confidence in those choices, regardless of whether or not they were the right choice. best decision from the logical point of view of the thing, since they felt like they were expressing what truly they are.

Research, however, underscores that making decisions purely based on intuition is great when it comes to of details that will not have much impact, such as the route to be taken back home or whether or not to go to a event. Now, when the matter is more serious and results in deeper impacts on your life or that of others, the recommendation is to use rational thinking and make the decision thoughtfully and quiet.
