The measure implemented by Netflix to institute an extra charge for users who share their passwords is being questioned by the Procons of the states of São Paulo, Santa Catarina and Paraná.
After Netflix's lack of response to the state's Directorate of Consumer Relations and Defense, Procon decided to take legal action.

As a result, an administrative proceeding with a precautionary measure was opened against the streaming platform. As a consequence, a fine of BRL 500.00 for each complaint filed with Procon-SC was established.
Netflix started charging for the additional account
Netflix has implemented a new policy where only users residing in the same household can access a shared account.
These users are free to use the streaming service anywhere, whether at home, on the go or while traveling. However, those who share the account in different residences will have to pay an additional fee of BRL 12.90 per month per extra subscriber.
Faced with this lack of response from Netflix, when asked about the ways in which this measure would be implemented, the director Alisson Micoski determined the opening of an administrative process that already has a decision injunction. The information was mentioned by the director in a statement to the Forum.
Procon seeks to understand how Netflix will control the sharing of passwords and establish criteria for additional charges. For this, the company will have the legal deadline to present its defense.
Micoski considered the measure a “flagrant abuse” and emphasized the protection of affected consumers, demanding that the company guarantee the previously agreed terms.
In order to offer greater control over access to accounts, Netflix has released two additional features: “Transfer a profile” and “Manage Access and Devices”.
With the “Transfer a Profile” feature, users have the option to transfer an entire profile, along with all of its personalized settings, to a new subscription. This new subscription would be paid by the person who will use the profile.
With the “Manage Access and Devices” feature, users can view all devices that are currently connected to their Netflix account.
They have the ability to terminate sessions on devices they shouldn't have access to, as well as being able to change their password if needed. This allows for finer control over which devices can access the account and provides an additional layer of security.
