Government reserves BRL 200 million for mental health care
Health Minister Nísia Trindade issued a statement on the amount reserved for issues related to mental health treatments. In the same context, she took advantage of and reinforced the need to increase access to different professionals.
After pandemic of COVID-19, many people felt the negative impact of isolation, which accelerated depression and anxiety. This scenario has increased the urgency to discuss public policies and initiatives in the public sector that consider mental illness.
By the end of 2023, at least BRL 200 million will be allocated to the states, which need this portion on several fronts. The published ordinances have already determined the programs covered by the current Union revenue.
Among them are the Caps (Psychosocial Care Center), the SRT (Therapeutic Residential Services) and the Raps (Psychosocial Care Network). In addition to these service centers, some special Basic Health Units were also contemplated.
However, when it comes to the annual budget, equivalent to R$ 414 million, there was a general increase of 27% in public money in this segment. Even so, the secretaries continue to discuss ways to promote preventive care, linked to schools, universities and other institutions.
New Department of Mental Health will organize the SUS budget
In the government's transition stage, the Department of Mental Health was created to restructure the policies that promote well-being of citizens. Therefore, this announcement of greater psychiatric and even psychopedagogical attention was already expected by doctors.
The new guidelines were signed last Monday (3), by Nísia Trindade. According to the minister, this decision to invest in comprehensive health was a consensus among the employees who are part of resource management.
Finally, it is expected that this measure will lead to an increase in psychological assistance, medication and tests at SUS posts.
