Shein says that clothes could be even cheaper in Brazil

According to an interview given to Folha de S.Paulo by the partner and president of Shein in Brazil, there is good news for those who are concerned about taxation on international purchases.

Marcelo Claure, president of the retailer throughout Latin America, said that parts manufactured in Brazil may cost the same or even less than those imported from China.

Claure has ambitious plans for the country, with the aim of making it one of Shein's main production and global distribution hubs. He points out that Brazil already has the necessary resources for this, including raw materials such as cotton, polyester and jeans.

In his interview, the president of the retailer in Latin America also discussed the issue of production costs in Brazil compared to China.

He pointed out that, despite higher manufacturing costs in Brazil, the previous challenge of the high logistical cost of transporting clothing from Asia to Brazilian addresses has been overcome.

He said that the savings made with logistics now make it possible to cover higher manufacturing costs in Brazil, including taxes.

He pointed out that the first factories assembled showed that the costs are similar, eliminating the need to import Brazilian cotton, manufacture it in China and then export it to Brazil.

Shein's expansion in Brazil is already underway

According to Claure, Shein currently has 151 factories dedicated exclusively to production for the retailer. He expressed his pride by mentioning that, just a month after the announcement of local production in Brazil, Brazilian pieces are already being sold in the domestic market.

Claure emphasized that Brazil is one of Shein's five largest markets worldwide, behind only Saudi Arabia, England, France and the United States.

This prominent position in the ranking demonstrates the strategic importance of Brazil for the retailer and reinforces its intention to strengthen its presence and operations in the country.
