As a result, one of the results found was the positive effect of beetroot on the physical performance of those who drank its juice.

From then on, it became common to use beetroot juice as a pre-workout. Since those who consumed the drink obtained more expressive results. However, there was no detailed explanation for what happened. However, teams from the University of Exeter with the US National Institutes of Health

U.S found the reason why beet juice added to physical performance.

Conversion of nitrate to nitric oxide

Because it has nitrate in its composition, beet juice, when ingested, takes the substance to the organism of those who consume it. Once present in the human organism, nitrate is transformed into nitric oxide, whose function is to circulate arterial blood throughout the body, reaching the muscles. With this, the body takes time to reach fatigue when exposed to training of varied intensities.

The activation of nitrate

The researchers selected ten people and analyzed the substance present in different parts of the body: saliva, blood, muscle and urine. In order to find the area where the nitrate was activated, the volunteers were instructed to exercise their leg muscles to the limit.

After consuming the juice, they waited an hour and then did an intense series of thigh muscle contraction exercises. After that, the data proved that the substance activates the muscles at the time of exercise. Due to this, the muscle strength of the volunteers received a considerable increase when compared to others who did not consume the beetroot juice.
