Highways will have 4G signal by September 2024; check more details

If you've already traveled the Brazilian highways and lost the internet, I have good news for you! This problem will be resolved soon, starting in the state of Goiás. This is because, by September 2024, three highways in Goiás, with more than 800 km of roads, will have Internet signal. Know more!

According to the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel), currently, 55% of the roads in Brazil provide internet signal. Thinking about increasing this coverage, the BRs-153, 414 and 080 will receive internet 4G.

The main objective of the partnership between the EcoRodovias Group and Tim is to solve communication problems on the highway, such as inability to call the emergency 0800 phone, lack of GPS connectivity and traceability issues vehicular. Currently, only 20% of the stretch has mobile phone coverage, which makes it virtually impossible for people to communicate.

According to the president of EcoRodovias, Marcello Guidotti, the initiative will bring more security to those who travel through these BRs. However, in addition, everyone who works, lives or circulates near the highways will be beneficiaries. The expectation is to cover around 31,000 vehicles that pass through the BRs.

TIM expansion

According to Alberto Griselli, president of TIM Brasil, he sees the possibility of offering a 4G signal as promising. In addition to the internet signal, the operator is providing NB-IoT (a solution that supports “Internet of Things” applications) throughout the highway. This technology allows carriers and insurers to track cargo transport, ensuring greater security.

NB-IoT is a low power communication technology energy, allowing IoT devices to run for extended periods of time without the need to change batteries frequently. The standard uses only a small amount of bandwidth, allowing more IoT devices to be connected simultaneously over a single frequency spectrum. NB-IoT is compatible with existing 4G networks, allowing enterprises to quickly deploy IoT solutions.
