What are Marsupials?
Marsupials are mammals of the order Marsupialia. This group includes kangaroos, possums and Tasmanian devils. The word "Marsupial" derives from the Latin marsupium which means "little pouch". It was first used in 1797 by British zoologist William Elford Leach to refer to any mammal with pouches, regardless of how they reproduced or what type of pouch they had.
The mother places her young in a womb-like pouch that opens into the abdomen so that the young can be fed through a natural opening at the end of the pouch. Maternal care is common among most marsupials, who use their teeth instead of claws to defend themselves against predators such as birds and snakes.
Discover the Marsupial!
Now that you know more about them, it's time to find out which animal in the group the gallows refers to.
Tip 1: With 5 letters, this animal is between 65 and 80 cm long, and like all mammals, it has fur that is thick, dense and short. Can you guess?
Tip 2: They are solitary animals and have nocturnal to twilight habits. They have a peculiar feature of the order Diprotodontia, which are incisor teeth and two fingers joined by the skin on the hind limb. I'm sure it's now easy!
Tip 3: Last tip! They are a species native to Australia and tend to live most of the time on trees, especially in places where they find eucalyptus, the main food in their diet.
