This called some artists “Les Fauves” (which means “beasts” in Portuguese) in an exhibition in 1905, because there was a conventional statue of a boy surrounded by paintings in this new style. The principles of this movement were:
  • Creating, in art, is not related to the intellect or feelings;
  • To create is to consider the impulses of instinct and primary sensations;
  • Exaltation of pure color.
The following painters participated in the Fauvist movement: Henri Matisse, Maurice de Vlaminck, André Derain and Othon Friesz; main responsible for the taste for the use of pure colors, present in today's daily life, in objects and garments. The main representative of the Fauvist movement was Henri Matisse, who had the characteristic of unconcerned with realism, where the things represented were less important than the form of represent them. For example, “Still life with red fish”, painted in 1911, when it is observed that the important thing is the pure colors and extended in large fields, essential for the organization of the composition.
