There was an increase in the number of victimized minors around the world, compared to the previous year. According to data from the UN itself, in 2019 there were 19,000 victims. That is, since then, there has been an increase of approximately 42%.
The United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef) analyzed the data and pointed out that most crimes against children took place in regions where there are armed conflicts.
Many of them last for years, victimizing minors who, in most cases, have their lives cut off even before reaching puberty.
Crimes against children range from maiming to abduction and forced recruitment
Also according to the UN, of the 27,000 children victimized, around 9,000 died or were mutilated. In addition, 8,000 were recruited and used as soldiers and approximately 4,000 minors were kidnapped.
In addition, the survey concluded that there was an increase in the numbers of sexual abuse. The United Nations has notified more than a thousand cases of rape. And almost all of the victims, in this particular crime, are female.
Schools and humanitarian aid
The UN report also shows that more than 1,100 schools suffered attacks in 2022. In addition, 650 hospitals also had some type of attack.
The numbers grew 112% compared to the previous year. Gamba pointed out that half of these attacks were carried out by government forces. According to her, these two types of sites are being used for military purposes.
On the other hand, humanitarian workers are finding it even more difficult to enter these places to help children. According to UN, more than 3,900 people had their requests for humanitarian access denied.
