In commemoration of the bicentennial of Independence of Brazil, O heart of Dom Pedro I is temporarily on display in the country.
The organ was brought from Portugal, where it was preserved, by an executive jet of the Brazilian Air Force (FAB). The heart has been on display since the 25th of August and the public will be able to visit the relic until the 4th of September, at the Itamaraty Palace, in the Federal District.
Visiting hours, as well as their rules, must be consulted in the Itamaraty website.

Why was Dom Pedro I's heart separated from his body?
Upon falling ill in 1834, Dom Pedro I predicted that his death was near. Hence, he arranged all the legal matters of his daughter's reign before she died.
The former Brazilian emperor suffered from tuberculosis It is, before dying, he made an unusual request: that his heart be buried in the city of Porto, in Portugal, the city he loved and lived in during part of the civil war.
After his death, Dom Pedro I had his heart removed from his body and placed in an urn.
in the Church of Nossa Senhora da Lapa, in Porto. The body was buried in Lisbon. However, his remains were brought to Brazil in 1972. The heart remained preserved in Portugal until today. Bicentennial of the Independence of Brazil
In 2022, we celebrate the bicentennial of Independence in Brazil. On September 7, 1822, D. Peter the First proclaimed the independence of Brazil, transforming the country into a monarchy.
