Tendonitis. Causes, symptoms and treatment of tendonitis

You tendons they are tough fibers bundled together that lie between muscle and bone. We have tendons in every bendable part of our body. Sometimes these tendons can suffer some kind of inflammation, causing the tendonitis, which can have two causes: mechanical and chemical.

THE mechanical cause it is caused by prolonged and repetitive strain, in addition to overload. THE chemical cause it is caused by improper diet and some toxins present in the body. It can also occur when muscles and tendons are not being sufficiently drained, causing dehydration.

The first symptoms of tendonitis are pain. In addition, the person is unable to perform some simple movements, such as walking, going up and down stairs.

Tendinitis can be easily confused with rheumatoid arthritis, so more detailed tests are ordered in order to make a more accurate diagnosis. Generally, to diagnose tendinitis, the doctor uses tests such as x-ray or ultrasound.

O treatment of tendon inflammation will depend on the severity of the case. There are cases where only anti-inflammatory drugs are prescribed; in others, the affected limb may be immobilized with a splint or even a cast; while in very severe cases there may be local application of corticosteroids. Rest and physical therapy are also recommended. In cases of tendinitis with a chemical origin, doctors recommend a special diet.

When the treatment is not done properly and physical therapy is not done for the time determined by the doctor, some sequelae of tendonitis may remain. This can even lead to a torn tendon, which causes a lot of pain and inability to work and exercise.

the best way to prevent tendonitis is taking some precautions, such as:

→ Maintain a balanced diet;
→ Before starting an exercise routine, condition your muscles;
→ Always warm up before starting any physical activity;
→ Anyone who works a lot with a computer and makes repetitive movements should always stop and stretch to avoid RSI (repetitive strain injury);
→ Seek medical help and follow all prescribed guidelines.
