Nucleolus Functions and Structure

The nucleolus is a cellular structure that is present in the nucleus of eukaryotic cells. In each nucleus there is usually only one nucleolus.

Roles

The nucleolus is one of the most important organelles present in the nucleus of eukaryotic cells.

In the cell nucleolus, ribosomal RNA's are produced. Therefore, the most important function of these structures is to assist in the production of RNA.

Furthermore, it stores this material and coordinates cell reproduction processes through protein synthesis.

Remember that the ribosomes are a cell organelle that assists in the production and synthesis of proteins in cells.

They are formed by ribosomal folded RNA molecules associated with proteins. Having made this observation, we can conclude that the nucleolus indirectly acts on protein synthesis.

Structure

Nucleoli are dense, small, spherical structures formed by proteins, DNA and RNA. This nuclear organelle is not membrane-bound and has a spongy appearance.

Cell NucleolusCell Core

Nucleoli are present in cells when they are not performing the cell division. Therefore, it disappears at the beginning of cell division and only recomposes at the end of this process.

Nucleolus and Chromatin

Chromatin is made up of DNA molecules that are associated with histone proteins. It is a cellular region that acts as an organizer of the nucleolus.

Cell Nucleus and Nucleoplasm

O cell nucleus it is the cellular region of eukaryotic cells where the genetic material (DNA) of both unicellular and multicellular organisms is found.

Inside it is the nucleoplasm, a type of substance in which genetic material and other cellular structures are embedded.
