THE 2030 Agenda is a document that aims to guide the nations of the planet towards sustainable development, in addition to eradicating extreme poverty and strengthening world peace.
For this to happen, several programs and actions to be developed by member countries of the United Nations (UN) in the period from 2016 to 2030 are suggested.
The document was completed in September 2015 in New York, after debates and meetings among delegates from UN member countries. In it, the agreement between the parties involved who commit to the advancement and establishment of actions towards sustainable development across the planet is reinforced, as shown in the excerpt below:
We are determined to take the bold and transformative steps that are urgently needed to steer the world onto a sustainable and resilient path. As we embark on this collective journey, we commit that no one is left behind.
Sustainable Development Goals
The 2030 agenda is based on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 169 complementary goals, reaching three pillars: economic, social and environmental.

What are the goals of the 2030 Agenda?
The actions and plans related to the 2030 Agenda involve some areas considered of extreme importance for humanity.
The goals of the 2030 Agenda are comprehensive and ambitious, which must have the collaboration and integration of all countries.
People
The goal is to end extreme poverty and hunger. It considers that a person lives in extreme poverty when he has less than US$ 1.90 a day.
Other goals include equal rights to economic resources, access to basic social services, and pro-poor, gender-sensitive policies.
By 2030 it is also guaranteed that people will have access to clean water, basic sanitation and proper hygiene.
Planet
The goals related to the planet involve the protection and restoration of ecosystems and water resources. Sustainable production and consumption will also be encouraged, safeguarding natural resources.
One of the goals proposes to promote the implementation of sustainable management of all types of forests, to stop the deforestation, restore degraded forests and substantially increase afforestation and reforestation globally, by 2020.
Among other actions are:
- Combat desertification;
- Avoid the introduction of invasive alien species and control/eradication of priority species;
- Restore degraded forests;
- Prevent the extinction of endangered species;
- Finance sustainable forest management.
Prosperity
In this area of Agenda 2030, it is intended that all human beings can have a prosperous life and full personal fulfillment. Furthermore, it is included that economic growth occurs in harmony with nature.
One example is that by 2030, everyone should have access to public services and safe, adequate and affordable housing. Access to public work in a safe and quality manner must also be provided.
Peace
Sustainable development also includes that societies must live in peace. This means that violence must be reduced, along with mortality rates.
One of the goals in this area is to end abuse, exploitation, trafficking and all forms of violence and torture against children. Access to justice must also be guaranteed to everyone.
Partnership
The 2030 Agenda is only possible through the involvement and engagement of all countries, the so-called Global Partnership for Sustainable Development.
The poorest and least developed countries must be helped by developed countries on a global scale. However, actions must also take place between states, cities and communities.
