Amebiasis (amoebic dysentery): caused by Entamoeba histolytica, this disease has as symptoms abdominal pain and intense diarrhea, with the presence of mucus and blood. Contamination is caused by ingestion of water or food containing cysts that were previously eliminated along with the feces of sick individuals.
balantidiosis (dysentery): Infection by Balantidium coli it is given by the ingestion of water or food containing its cysts, eliminated along with the feces of sick people. This protozoan causes lesions in the large intestine, providing a diarrhea similar to that of amoebiasis.
Chagas disease: This disease is transmitted by Triatoma infestans, Panstrongylus megistrus or some other species of blood-sucking bugs, popularly known as barbers. When biting the person, this insect releases, together with its feces, the infective forms of the flagellate trypanosoma cruzi. By scratching the bite region, the individual allows this parasite to penetrate the skin. Fever, tiredness and pain are the first symptoms that appear. In a chronic stage, hypertrophy of organs such as the heart occurs. In this case, the patient is more susceptible to heart failure.
Sleeping sickness: caused by trypanosoma brucei gambiense and T. brucei rhodesian, has the tsetse fly (Glossina palpalis) as a transmitting agent. Occurring restricted to Africa, this disease causes, primarily: tiredness, fever and anemia. In the chronic stage, deep sleepiness and other nervous system disorders. Can cause death.
