Back or Back: when to use?

The words behind and bring are homophones, which means they have the same sound but different spellings.

That's why these stressed monosyllables cause a lot of confusion when writing. Check here the rules, uses and examples of these words and don't make any more mistakes!

When to use Tras?

The back with "s" and acute accent is an adverb that means on the back, being used as a synonym for behind, behind, after, etc.

This term is always preceded by a preposition and, in this case, it plays the role of an adverb of place, forming an adverbial phrase.

Examples:

  • Do not look back while driving.
  • After the scolding, he didn't come out from behind of the curtain.
  • There is definitely a lot from behind of this political case.

Note.: The word “behind” is spelled with “s” at the end and, therefore, the term “behind” is incorrect.

When to use Traz?

The brings with "z" is a verb form of verb bring which means to transport, take, drive, forward, cause, offer, etc.

This form is conjugated in the third person singular of the indicative (he/she brings) and also in the second person singular of the imperative (bring you).

Examples:

  • Everyday Joan bring your lunch box.
  • no money bring happiness.
  • bring the umbrella because it's raining.

Note.: a tip to check if the use of this term is correct is substituting related verbs, for example, "lead":

Everyday Joan he takes your lunch box.

So, if the sentence is consistent, you are using the term correctly. Otherwise, you must use the adverb of place “back”.
