How to make a Mind Map (with examples)

Mind map, mind map, cognitive map or mental model is a type of diagram that was created and systematized by the English psychologist and writer Tony Buzan (1942-2019). This method would facilitate the understanding and connection between different concepts.

By producing a diagram, the mind map is something that can be produced on the computer or even by hand. This meets everyone's preference.

Nowadays there are several programs on the internet in which it is possible to create mind maps easily. In this case, printing them can make it easier to study for the exams.

Note that a mind map is a diagram about a theme that, through arrows, branches into sub-themes and so on. Therefore, no concept of the mind map should be disconnected from the rest.

With that in mind, check out the main elements that make up a mind map below.

1. general theme: is usually in the center of the map and is the central theme, for example: Troubadourism. There are some cases where we found it at the top of the diagram.

2. Related topics

: the subtopics that branch off from the general theme are topics that are related to it. In the case of Troubadourism, we can think of the troubadour songs, the main authors, the characteristics of this literary movement, etc.

3. lines and arrows: the lines or arrows are fundamental in the production of a mind map. With them, concepts will be connected and this will facilitate understanding.

4. Use of images and colors: although not fundamental, you can use images in the mind map. They should not be too big and occupy a significant part of the space. Colors are often used to highlight some information. You can use different shades in the mind map, as this will make it easier to find information.
