Some doubts are frequent when the subject is the Portuguese language. They even say that our language is difficult, that there are too many rules and too many exceptions, which would make it even more complicated. But, let's think about it: imagine if the rules didn't exist? It would be a complete mess, everyone would speak and write according to their own will. So if you want to be understood, knowing some rules is very important.
Have you noticed that there is a big difference between the words length and length? Why, then, do we barely distinguish the two words? You may have noticed that we often change some letters, this happens a lot with vowels Me, but this “confusion” must not happen in writing. The vowels o and u are different graphemes and have different sounds - what, in grammar, we call a phoneme. So, nothing is more appropriate than making correct use of these letters.
length and fulfillment have different meanings. We use length when we want to refer to the size, extent or dimension of things. Look at the examples:
The seamstress measured the length of the pants hem.
The ruler is thirty centimeters long.
The word greeting takes on another function and is used when we want to greet someone. It can also be used when we want to say that we have fulfilled something, that is, we have performed some task, we have fulfilled some agreement. See the examples:
Before departing for their honeymoon, the couple received greetings from the guests.
After many negotiations, the agreement between the two countries was fulfilled.
Did you see the difference? Now that you know the correct usage of each term, you can comply with the grammatical rules.
