First note these prayers:
children are reading stories
Julia is looking at her toy

In the two sentences there are two verbs - "are reading" and "is looking". So the word "auxiliaries" reminds us of support, helps, doesn't it?
So that we can understand the best way possible, we need to know the reason why they receive this denomination.
Auxiliary verbs are those that help the conjugation of other verbs. They are: Having, Having, Being, Being.
Like for example:
In prayer - "are reading", we have:
An auxiliary verb - are
A main verb - reading
