For having created an emotional bond with the children, Noah's Arkbecame one of the most popular books by Vinicius de Moraes
Noah's Ark
seven in color, suddenly
the rainbow unravels
In clear and contented water
From the riverside of the forest.
The sun, the transparent veil
From the rain of gold and silver
shines resplendent
In the sky, on the ground, in the waterfall.
And the door of the Ark opens
From pair to pair: frank appear
The joy and the white beards
of the prudent patriarch
Noah, the inventor of the grape
And that, justly and fearfully
Jehovah, forgiving
Saved from the plague of rain.
So green the mountain rises
through the neighboring plains
Which Noah says: "Good land
To plant my vines!"
And leaves taking the family
To see; while in calm
colorful wonder
Shines the bow of the alliance.
Come on, at the open door
suddenly wobbly
It comes up slow, long and uncertain
An elephant's trunk.
And right after, in the hole
From a window, appears
a monkey face
Who spies and disappears.
Meanwhile, between the high beams
From the attic windows
two friendly giraffes
From the outside the head goes.
A macaw screams, and it is heard
From within a meow and a bray
bark a dog in dispute
With a cat, kick a donkey.
the disjointed ark
It looks like it's going to collapse
By leaps and bounds
All wanting to leave.
Go! Will not! Who goes first?
Birds, however smart
go out flying fast
Through the open windows.
While in great haste
Next to the exit door
The fur animals fight
For the promised land.
"The woods are all mine!"
the lion roars superb
"I am also a child of God!"
One protests; and the tiger — "No!"
After all, and not without cost
In a long line, to couples
some angry, others scared
The animals are leaving.
The biggest ones come to the front
bringing the head up
And the weak, humbly
Come back, as in life.
led by Noah
here they are in well-liked land
That pass, pass even
Where the sight doesn't see
In the mountains the rainbow vanishes.. .
AND... since there was this story
when the veil of night falls
On earth, and the stars in glory
fill the sky with your whims
It's sweet to hear in silence
The soft-spoken of the animals
In the repopulated land.
Vinicius de Moraes was part of the group of religious poets that formed in Rio de Janeiro between the 1930s and 1940s
San Francisco
There goes San Francisco
by the way
barefoot
so poor
sleeping at night
by the mill
drinking water
From the riverside.
There goes San Francisco
standing on the ground
taking nothing
in your thrashing
saying to the wind
Good morning mate
saying to fire
Cheers, brother.
There goes San Francisco
by the way
carrying in her lap
Jesus Christ
partying
in the little boy
Telling stories
For the birds.
The art of Vinicius de Moraes is a gateway to Brazilian Literature. Several generations have already learned more about poetry through him!
Christmas
suddenly the sun came up
And the rooster crowed:
"Christ was born!"
the ox, in the lost field
He let out a long moo:
- To where? To where?
with its trembling bleat
Slightly says the lamb:
- In Belem! In Belem!
That's when, in a bray
You hear the donkey laugh:
— Yes, I was there!
And the cute parrot
He began to speak: — It's a lie!
The feather animals, in a flock
They complained in protest.
The whole loft cooed:
—Cross creed! Cross creed!
angry
The screaming macaw begins:
- Lie! Macaw. Come on!
"Christ was born!" the cock crows.
- To where? asks the ox.
"In a stable!" - the horse
Glad snorts where it went.
Bale the lamb too:
- In Belem! Me! In Belem!
And the animals all caught
the cockatiel parrot
And out of anger they applied
A huge spanking.
