Meaning of Forum (What it is, Concept and Definition)

Forum (or forum) is the place where matters related to justice and the law are processed. It's the same as court. The pronunciation of the word forum can change its meaning. If it is pronounced with the first open vowel (foro), it will be synonymous with forum.

Forum is a term originated in Latin. In ancient Rome, the "forum" was the public square of the localities, where the buildings for administrative and judicial services were located, as well as the main points of commerce. It was the most important region, the economic, religious, social and political center of each location. The word forum is still used today to refer to the set of spaces where legal matters are managed.

The jurisdiction, associated with the Law, can also indicate a jurisdiction belonging to a district, for example, the jurisdiction of the district of São Paulo.

When the word “foro” is pronounced with the first closed vowel (foro) it may be related to jurisdiction or competence, for example, ecclesiastical forum. Or, it can acquire the meaning of scope.

It is often applied in the expression “intimate forum”, that is, when a certain subject concerns the conscience itself.
