Meaning of Prognosis (What it is, Concept and Definition)

prognosis is a prediction based on facts or actual and current data, which can indicate the likely future stage of a process.

In short, the prognosis is any result that is taken as a hypothesis or probability, that is, something that can happen due to the circumstances observed in the present.

In medicine, for example, the prognosis is obtained from the analysis of the diagnosis made in the patient, indicating which possible diseases may be responsible for the diagnosed symptoms.

In fact, the main difference between diagnosis and prognosis it is in the fact that the first is related solely to the knowledge and condition of the present, that is, to what is observed at the moment. On the other hand, prognosis is prior knowledge about something that is likely to happen in the future, a result obtained from interpretations made based on the diagnosis.

This means that, in the medical field, the prognosis is intrinsically linked to the diagnosis, the first being dependent on the second to exist.
