Abster is an intransitive verb and a pronominal verb and means the impediment from performing any activity, position, service or right; it is the decision to refrain from making a decision, choosing, or performing a certain action.
THE abstention is the act or effect of abstain, that is, abdicate, deny, withdraw or not agree with a certain thing, be it an event, a situation, an opinion or a right.
THE abstinence in elections, for example, is when a certain group of individuals decide to abstain from their right to vote.
The act of abstaining is also related to behavior, with the lack of interference or meddling in some matter that does not concern. Example: "She preferred to abstain from her comment for her daughter".
Abstention can be a form of rejection when something is considered inconvenient or uncomfortable. Example: "He refrained from inviting his uncle to the party."
