Grief is a common feeling of human beings, characterized by a sensation caused by an indelicate, disappointing and offending act on the part of others.
Unlike other human feelings that are intense and fleeting, hurt is an uncomfortable feeling that can last for a long time, in some cases even forever.
When it is said that a certain person “holds hurt” in a situation or individual, it means that there is a mixture of feelings that varies between resentment, anger and sadness. Usually, the hurt is the result of a great disappointment.
In the figurative sense of the term, hurt can also mean the act of envying something that belongs to someone else.
Example:"The young woman is saddened by the happiness of others".
In Portuguese, the term hurt is also usually related to a stain or mark caused by an injury. However, this interpretation of the word is not usually used in the Portuguese language spoken in Brazil.
Example: "The pain in the boy's arm is great".
Etymologically, this word originates from the Latin
blemish, which was used to refer to the feeling of disgust, bitterness, sadness and resentment.See also: the meaning of Disappointment.
