Sophisticated is an adjective in Portuguese, used to qualify something that is considered to be in good taste and with refinement or who has great complexity and improvement.
The word sophisticated is the past participle of the verb sophisticate which, in turn, etymologically, would have originated from the French sophistique, which means "deceive with sophistries" and which was used in the sense of "deceiving", "falsifying" or "corrupting".
Currently, the term sophisticated has a more directed connotation to something or someone who is endowed with refinement and glam or related to innovations and latest technologies and production techniques, for example, but it can also mean something that is faked or tampered with, however this meaning is rarely used.
The sophisticated is the opposite of the simple, due to its refined, erudite and artificial nature, which escapes the simplism of the naturalness of certain things.
Example: "The young woman decided to buy a more sophisticated dress for the party" or "The actress' hairstyle is more sophisticated this year".
In English, the word "sophisticated" can be translated to sophisticated.
