Emerge and immerse are considered words antonyms in the Portuguese language, that is, they have opposite meanings and must be used in different contexts and situations.
The word "emerge" is related to the come or bring up action, it is generally said of what was submerged. Example: "The firefighters managed to surface the ship that had sunk" or "The boy's body emerged to the surface".
The verb to emerge can still be used in the sense of appearing, appearing or manifesting. Example: "The full moon has emerged on the horizon".
Already the word "immerse" has the opposite meaning to emerge, being used in the sense of diving, hiding or sinking something in a liquid substance. Example: "The boy immersed himself in water a few minutes ago".
This verb can also be used to express the act of penetrating or entering some place or something.
In a figurative sense, immersing can still mean "becoming invisible" or "disappearing". Example: "The swimmer immersed in the depths of the ocean".
