Hugo Boss is a German clothing and perfume brand, created in 1923 by Hugo Ferdinand Boss, a German tailor. The tailoring shop was created with the aim of manufacturing clothing for workers. During World War II he designed and made clothing for Nazi party troops and officers. After the war, Hugo was prosecuted and fined for his participation in Nazism, yet he was allowed to continue with his factory.
Boss died in 1948. His grandchildren continued the factory and transformed the brand into high quality clothing. In 1990, the collection grew with the manufacture of ties, knits, coats, glasses and perfumes. In 1993, seventy percent of the company's shares were sold to Leyton House. In 1998, Hugo Woman was launched for the female audience.
Boss Corporation is a subsidiary of Roland Corporation, a Japanese music, electronics and software equipment manufacturer, founded in Osaka in 1972 by engineer Ikutaro Kakehashi.
